Providing a mobile charging service in a world where phones are getting bigger and bigger batteries

As some of you may know, we as business owners actually developed the Novi Charging Station back in 2015 because we ourselves constantly ran out of battery while we were on the go. Four years later, this problem still exists on days where I’m out and about in meetings all day to prospective customers without a facility to recharge.

So recently, after a couple years of using an iPhone X, I realised my battery was tired and weary. It would run out towards 12-4pm depending on how much I used it throughout the morning. So, three weeks ago, I decided to order the iPhone 11 Max. It touted a 5 hour increase in battery life, allowing me to keep connected for longer on days I didn’t have a Novi handy.

The first 7 days was fantastic. I’d come home from work, without charging my phone once throughout the day and was still left with 70% battery at 7pm. On the 8th day, I noticed it dropped down to 65%. 2 weeks of ownership now has me down to about 55%. Of course, my phone usage does vary day-to-day, but the stark drop from 70% to 55% is a little alarming.

What I’m finding now is that even with the latest iPhone, I’m still going to need an extra boost throughout the day, especially if I’m going to be out in the evening. On top of that, as more and more powerful phones are released, more and more powerful software comes along with it as well. Which means most likely at this time next year, I’m going to be in the same position as I was again with the iPhone X.

We at MG* have noticed a considerable increase in businesses buying and enquiring around mobile charging stations over the last 24 months, showing that despite the increased battery capacities provided by manufacturers, internal phone batteries are actually still not balanced with the extent in which users would like to engage with the device.
